There seems to be a day for everything: lovers, the dead, cupcakes (for animals), oranges & lemons, even phobias. It seems only suiting that there should be a day for the original and most common venue for Superheros – comic books.
Free Comic Book Day – the first Saturday in May each year – is when participating comic book shops across the globe give away specific comic books absolutely FREE to anyone who comes into their stores. It\’s a great day of family-friendly fun for die-hard fans, as well as those just venturing into the genre. I definitely look for forward to it each year.
My local comic book store, Comic Book Addiction, goes all out for the day. There are costumed staff; contests and prizes for attendees; local artists selling wares and drawing custom art for \”tips\”; and free barbecue, popcorn and drinks. This year they have two new sponsors for the event which means there will also be free cupcakes and ice cream shakes. Yum! This year CBA will be running a small carnival area, with tickets for purchase, and giving all proceeds to local charities.
Last year, my daughter, her fiancée, a few of his family members and I were squinting in the sun and sweating in our long-sleeved shirts. Hopefully Mother Nature stops her freezing blasts over North America this weekend and let\’s us have fun in a warming, winter-melting, sun.
Find a participating store near you and share with me some tales if you attend.
