Dance A Little Dance For Me

Music will soothe the savage soul and music can uplift (or downgrade) any mood you may be under. There are several songs from my youth (long live the 80s!!) that can swoosh a cloud away from the overcast emotions that simmer in my essence at times. I assume it is the same for you. Sometimes it is the music that helps us to remember that we are alive, and that every struggle is not insurmountable. Every single one. Every setback. Every difficulty. You can overcome. Always. Always! Believe in you and the world will believe in you as well. Just remember that, some times, it takes a lot longer than you hope.

In the meanwhile…. put on some tunes… and let the music – lyrics – movement – oblivion…. take you to a sunnier place. It’s easier to be a force to reckon with when you are energetic.

Here’s the one that helps me each and every single time –> dance and sing to this!

Little bit of trivia for you ~~ A couple’s Wedding Song is traditionally the first song they dance to as a married couple. Due to the crazy and fiasco-fun that hubby @AndyAndACoffee and I shared for our nuptials and reception, we didn’t have any music at all. So, we had no First Dance at the reception.

The first time we danced together after saying I Do was at a friend’s party; both of us warm from many, many Adult Drinks. The song? Erasure’s A Little Respect. A band with gay and homosexual members singing about (possibly) one person in a relationship having unrealistic expectations of the other and the request that they – PLEASE – show some compassion and respect to their partner. But, truth be told, I always felt it was the band asking the Church or God to allow us to be who we truly are in our sexual orientation, gay or straight.

So, technically speaking, Our Wedding Song is A Little Respect. (Better First Dance song IMHO* than the popular choice of Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You which is about leaving the one you love.)

Need some help while you sing along? There you go. You’re welcome.

A Little Respect album art

I try to discover
A little something to make me sweeter
Oh baby refrain from breaking my heart
I’m so in love with you
I’ll be forever blue
That you give me no reason
Why you’re making me work so hard

That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no

Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me

And if I should falter
Would you open your arms out to me
We can make love not war
And live at peace in our hearts
I’m so in love with you
I’ll be forever blue
What religion or reason
Could drive a man to forsake his lover

Don’t you tell me no
Don’t you tell me no
Don’t you tell me no
Don’t you tell me no

Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me

I’m so in love with you
I’ll be forever blue
That you give me no reason
You know you’re making me work so hard

That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no

Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me

Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me

Second trivia bit ~~ This Michael Jackson song always helps to ease me out of SAD into HAPPY.

* In My Humble Opinion – yes, I’ve been online for many years *s*
